| Why Buy Insurance? |
Why Buy Insurance?by Mike A. Zubero This week while watching a documentary on natural disasters, I was made aware of some startling information. In 1997 and 1998 many natural disasters devastated not only America but other countries as well. "El Nino & La Nina" cost Insurance Companies billions of dollars. Fortunately for Americans, we have insurance to cover almost any disaster imaginable. While watching this documentary, I found out some interesting information about hurricane Mitch. hurricane Mitch devoloped late in the season last year. It was one of the largest hurricanes ever recorded. Mitch was even more powerful than Andrew which most of us remember as the most costly natural disaster in history. What was most interesting was what Mitch did to the economy of Honduras. It is estimated that its economy has been set back over 30 years. Being located in South Florida I come in contact with many people from South America. I have learned over the years that many of the South American Cultures have no insurance products at all and even fewer have access to products like we do in America. This lack of insurance is what creates such devastating effects on the economy. With out insurance to replace your most prized possessions you must re-buy and rebuild. Things like Homeowners Insurance, Life Insurance, Health Insurance, Auto Insurance and many other insurance programs protect Americans from financial ruin. These things help guarantee that we will financially weather the storms of life. So, the next time you find yourself asking the question "why?" remember the peace of mind you get from having Insurance. It is another comfort we, as Americans, take for granted.
